DESCRIPTION

The inclination of the plot’s ground, its orientation and its place towards the Urban Web, are the data that were taken into consideration during the planning of the City Hall, in order to retain its connection to the Centre of the City.

The narrow main facade of the plot led to the assembling of the biggest part of the building’s volume to the Western edge of the plot. The landscape of the area invades our project from its northern side and its continuity creates the building’s central courtyard. The inclination of the ground led to the designing of graduating levels that host all of the building’s operations. The whole building looks like it emerges from the ground and creates a new landmark for the city.

The most well-known monument of the city of Ioannina is the imposing castle that looks like it is floating over the calm waters of the front lake. This is the image that represents the city and its history. The use of a massive stone wall that outlines the building gives the project its unique character and creates a connection between the building and the City’s history.
