The project is about the redevelopment of an already existing public square that has been abandoned for several years. It is located in the centre of the city of Lamia and it surrounds a neoclassical building that houses the City Hall, in a way that can work as its backyard. Therefore, in order to create a new gathering spot and a new landmark for the city we decided to design different sitting areas using wood as our main material. Τhe sitting areas with the custom-made benches will be protected from rain and heat with canopies. The main goal of this project is to highlight some of the older characteristics of the square so as to attract more visitors to enjoy it, such as an old children’s library that used to function in the past years and with its redesigning we aim to create a place that many children can use and have fun. A modern installation will add to the playful and vibrant vibe of the new square and all of the features combined will produce the final result of a synthesis that gives life to a neglected area and blends in with the environment.
